The first thing that will catch your eye in Ixia is the large number and variety of hotels extending as far as your eye can see, and all the Sun-baked tourists soaking up the sun at the poolside or the beach, who throw themselves into all sorts of activities - water sports, shopping, tasting some of the specialties offered by the restaurants, which are constantly opening up along the main avenue, moving away from the rationale that was the norm until recently, which was to serve 'a bit of everything'. During the fishing season, catches along the bay include marides, gopa and kolios, which the fishermen sell directly on the sea side. Ixia beach is made up of varied earth-collared pebbles, and 6m in from the water's edge the transparent and clean seawater has a sandy sea bed. Owing to the pleasurable climate and the fresh north wind which blows especially during the summer months, the Rhodian City (Rhodes town) population has had for hundreds of years a holiday resort in Ixia.
